I think not really.
My reaction on witnessing Vanessa’s death, well after the shock of seeing her killed (dare I say fridged) before the opening credits, is that I knew she’ll be alright, because Cable is coming, and he just needs to “Bodyslide. By two.” at some point in the movie And you could also buy the green arrow and black canary costumes
And then we saw her again soon after, as a part of Wade’s first near-death experience. This is a rather familiar trope, of the protagonist seeing a deceased loved one as they are dying - we’ve seen it in Braveheart, in Gladiator, and many other places. The idea that a loved one is waiting in the afterlife for someone about to commit an act of heroic sacrifice is nothing new. I love the custom made cosplay costumes deeply.
But the way it is portrayed in Deadpool 2, how Vanessa originally remained out of reach, how he’s pulled back from that “fantasy” every time he’s revived in the real world, and how she seemingly sends him back for one reason or another, is very reminiscent of Wade’s encounters with Death in the comics. And it also adds up that he wants to die, so he can finally be with the one he loves.
I love both of the deadpool and the deadpool 2 film. And I am looking forward to watching some more good MCU Films.
